Océanides
A solo Modern Batik exhibition by artist Gabrielle Lasporte

In her 3rd Modern Batik series, Gabrielle continues her visual exploration of the human experience by delving into water. Water, essential for human survival, widely signifies healing and regeneration. Through this collection of work, Gabrielle explores the beauty of this natural force as a mirror for our lives.

As we live each day, emotions influence our growth through highs and lows. Just like the movement of water and the cycles of waves caused by external forces, we are destined to live this cycle over and over again. The many layers of dyes within each piece provide another metaphor for the layers of emotions, realizing how embracing them is ultimately our empowerment.

Gabrielle’s work has been shown at notable events including the Manifesto Festival Art Exhibit, Queen West Art Crawl, and Toronto Scotiabank Nuit Blanche.  In 2012-13, Gabrielle was commissioned to complete three sea-themed pieces for private collectors.  Her work on these pieces further inspired her to explore water as a theme in her development as a Modern Batik artist.  She was the first batik artist to participate in The Artist Project, a contemporary art fair in Toronto, where she will be returning in February 2015 to present her latest collection.

Her previous series ” Life Flow” was an abstract visual representation of the life cycle through colour and shapes. Through good or bad, life will always flow to its ultimately destiny.

I was recently invited to be part of a new collective created by Jimmy Chiale. I am looking forward to being inspired by all the talented artists/collective members!

Representing for 416 Gallery  #416collective – The first show theme was “Good ol’ 416”
my piece “TDot Flow” and my inspiration: “The energy of so many different people coming together is what makes Toronto so unique and admired. Chaotic, Spectacular, Frustrating .. Inspiring – Its part of our Tdot Flow.”

about 416 Gallery:

416GALLERY is a contemporary art gallery in Toronto founded and directed by abstract artist & curator Jimmy Chiale. It is located at 404 Queen street east, two blocks east of Parliament.

The first week of every month, the gallery showcases CHIALE’s bright and colourful abstract work. The last week of every month is dedicated to a series of group shows curated by CHIALE exhibiting a large variety of local artists.
The Grand opening month will be different starting the first week of September with the collective’s show and the week after with Chiale’s work.

Throughout the month, the space can be rented weekly or hourly to individual artists, collectives, local communities, and charitable or non-profit organizations with Jimmy Chiale’s curatorial help, if required, to guarantee a successful event. The space is perfectly designed to host any small or medium scale events such as receptions, classes, photo/video shoots, installations and exhibitions. The gallery can also host artists talks, workshops, classes and movie screenings that are open to the community, kids and artists. The primary focus is to assist and promote local artists in Toronto by showcasing and selling their work to art lovers.

The gallery provides a way for artists to connect with the local art community and its supporters by providing assistance and presenting opportunities to help them accomplish their careers as artists in the way that they desire. 416GALLERY is a professional, fun, inspiring and creative environment where everyone can meet and discuss art over a cup of coffee or a glass of wine.
See you there!
